How It Works

Simple for you. Demanding for us. That's the arrangement.

Most of our clients have never replaced windows at this level before. We have — 847 times.

  1. Design Conversation

We visit the home before we discuss a single specification. We look at the light, the architecture, the existing details. You leave with a clear picture of what's possible and what it will cost — no vague estimates, no upsells.

  2. Specification & Approval

Every dimension, material, finish, and hardware detail is documented and presented for your review. Nothing goes into production without your signature. Changes at this stage are expected — that's what this stage is for.

  3. Fabrication

Your windows are built in our workshop, by the same installers who will fit them in your home. This is not standard practice. It means the people who understand the design are the ones who build and install it.

  4. Installation & Handover

Our crew arrives on day one with a detailed schedule. Daily cleanup is not optional. Each evening the site manager gives you a progress update. On the final day, we walk through every window together before we leave.

Why Pane & Frame

We don't work from a catalog.

Most window companies sell from a range. You choose a style, choose a finish, and the result is a window that fits the opening but ignores the building.

We work differently. Before we discuss materials or dimensions, we study the home. How the light moves through it. What the architecture demands. What the original designer would have intended.

The result is a window that doesn't announce itself — it simply makes the home more completely itself.

Architectural

We treat windows as architectural elements, not building components. Every profile, proportion, and detail is considered in relation to the home it serves.

Bespoke

Every dimension, material, and finish is specified to your project. We do not offer a product line. We offer a design process that begins with a blank page.

Accountable

One team designs, fabricates, and installs your windows. One contact from first conversation to final walkthrough. If anything isn't right, you know exactly who to call.

Client Testimonials

From people who were exactly where you are.

Three winters later, not one draft, not one fogged pane, not one call to the service line. The windows look and perform exactly as described in our first meeting. I've sent four neighbors their way.

18 wood-clad casements with restored divided-light profiles

I expected chaos. They replaced fourteen windows in four days. Every afternoon the project manager knocked on my door with an update before his crew left. On the last day, they cleaned the glass, vacuumed under the sills, and asked me to check every single window before they packed the van.

22 aluminum-clad fixed and casement, new construction

A seal failed on one unit about twenty months after installation. I called on a Tuesday. Someone called me back that afternoon. They were at my house on Thursday. Repaired, no charge, no argument. That's the company I was hoping they'd be — and they were.

Common Questions

Honest answers. No sales agenda.

The questions we hear in every first consultation, answered the same way we'd answer them in person.

What does a custom window project typically cost?

Most of our residential projects range from $28,000 to $95,000 depending on scope — number of windows, materials, and glazing specification. We provide a detailed, itemised quote after the initial consultation. There are no surprises after you've signed.

How long does the process take from first meeting to completion?

Most projects complete in 10–14 weeks from first consultation to final installation. This includes 1–3 weeks for design and approval, 6–10 weeks for fabrication, and 3–6 days for installation.

Do you use subcontractors for installation?

Never. Every installer is a direct employee of Pane & Frame. They complete a minimum of 200 supervised residential installations before working independently. The same team that builds your windows installs them.

What happens if something goes wrong after installation?

All frame and glass performance is covered by our 30-year transferable warranty. If an issue arises, you call us directly — not a third-party warranty service. We respond within one business day and resolve the issue at no charge for covered defects.

Can you work with my architect or general contractor?

Yes — and we actively prefer it. We coordinate directly with your architect from specification to final inspection, at no additional management fee. We have worked alongside more than 40 architectural firms across the region.

Do you serve my area?

We serve greater Chicago, Milwaukee, and the surrounding tri-state region. If you're unsure whether your project falls within our service area, call us — we'll tell you honestly.

What materials do you work with?

Wood, aluminum-clad wood, fiberglass, composite, and steel profile. We recommend materials based on the home's architecture, your performance requirements, and your maintenance preferences — not on which materials carry the highest margin for us.

What disruption should I expect during installation?

Our crew arrives on day one with a detailed schedule. We protect all interior and exterior surfaces before any work begins. Daily cleanup is not optional. A project manager will brief you before leaving each day.

Your home has waited long enough.

A design consultation is a conversation, not a commitment. Tell us about your home. We'll tell you what's possible — and what it will realistically cost.

We respond to every inquiry within one business day. You won't hear from a salesperson. You'll hear from a designer.

Optional — we'll use email if not provided.
